And the Winner is... ... ...
Meridian Driver #58 Joe Barton wins the PROJECT FILTER 75
MERIDIAN, Idaho - The Northwest Pro4 Alliance
opened its 2011 season with Joe Barton being in
the right place at the right time to become the
first two-time winner of the Project Filter All-
Star Challenge at ASA-sanctioned Meridian
Speedway. Maybe it was because he was
driving for the Air Force on Military Appreciation
Night. The Nampa, Idaho, driver reclaimed the
All-Star Challenge perpetual trophy when race
leader, Alliance regular, Rob Powers of
Meridian, Idaho, and Jim Bailey of Middleton,
Idaho, slid across the track after making contact
on thebackstretch with two laps remaining in
the 75 lap event. Barton slid under the mayhem
for clear sailing to the win. The 2009 champion
unseated Boise, Idaho’s Ken Chandler, the
reigning champion who had fittingly switched
sponsorships to the Smoke-Free 33 of Project
Filter and then led for most of the 2011
challenge, which was a 75-lap race that
attracted the Northwest Pro-4 Alliance and the
top drivers in the West.
There was plenty of excitement in the
preliminary races for the Project Filter All-Star
Challenge. Six cars started the 15-lap B main
for a shot to transfer into the Project Filter All-
Star Challenge 75. Two cars would make the
main event field, exactly two cars finished the
race – race winner Derek Becker of Highland,
Calif., and Thomas Husk of Bonners Ferry,
Idaho. Becker, found himself in the B main after
a practice crash cause him to miss time trials.
Becker and Husk qualified when race leader CJ
Hawley of Othello, Wash., sideswiped the front
stretch wall and lost a tire with two laps left. The
attrition began when Becker and Scott Raver made
contact while battling for the last transfer spot,
Raver spun and the #87 of Greg Hector and Boise
driver Terry Sherman’s No. 41, became involved in
the crash. Sherman’s car was destroyed when it
sped into the disabled car driven by Raver of
Prosser, Wash., in the middle of Turns 3 and 4.
Sherman hit Raver then drove into the Turn 4 wall,
tearing off the entire front end.
In the fast heat, Jim Bailey of Middleton, Idaho,
took advantage of defending Northwest Pro-4
Alliance series champion Kurt Madsen’s bad luck.
Bailey jumped to the lead when the Harriman,
Utah, driver suffered a flat tire after running into
Neal Latham of Boise while leading with three laps
left. Madsen had moved to the front after race
leader Joe Barton of Kuna, Idaho, second place
John Grosvenor of Puyallup, Wash., and Latham
tangled heading into Turn 4 with six laps left in the
eight-lap preliminary. In the second Pro-4 heat, it
took Kuna’s Casey Tillman three tries because of
yellow flags, but he finally got a pass of Johnny
Rumsey of Prosser, Wash., to take home the
checkered flag. With one lap left, Tillman powered
his way past Rumsey coming out Turn 4. There
were three caution flags during the eight-lap race.
In the first Pro-4 heat of the night, Greg Hector of
Soap Lake, Wash., came out on top in a three-wide
finish at the flag. Hector was in the middle as CJ
Hawley of Othello, Wash., and Steve Thompson of
West Richfield, Wash., sped to the finish line on
either side of him. Thompson was making a great
run after having to switch engines following a pre-race practice mishap. Ken Chandler took home the Bob
Jackson Body Repair Fast Time Cash, while Jim Bailey scored the Bellevue Auto Sport Fast Dash Cash. The Fans Choice MCS Best Appearing Car Award went to Dayne Amyx of Boise. We would like to thank Don and Tiffany Curtis for coming out and sharing the evening and selecting the best looking car.

Madsen Wins BIG
in Wenatchee Valley
Boise, ID - Utah’s Kurt Madsen put the
Wenatchee Valley Super Oval fans
on their feet when he caught
California’s Eddie Secord behind a
lapped car with three laps to go and
made the winning pass. The Rock
Church 75 was worth a whopping
$1,200.00 plus contingencies to the
Garrett Doyle Performance Honda
team and pushed Madsen to sixth in
the championship points standings
after a dismal season opener at
Meridian Speedway.
Qualifying saw defending race
winner Rick Thompson, of Prosser,
WA, turn-in the Bellevue Auto Sports
quick time with a 13.038. Secord was
next with a 13.226, while Bud Rumsey,
also from Prosser, WA, was third quick
with a 13.271. The stage was set for a
very fast Rock Church 75.
Trophy dash action saw B. Rumsey win
the Bob Jackson Body Repair A-Dash,
while Greg Hector of Soap Lake, WA,
won the Bob Jackson Body Repair
B-Dash. Heat races were very exciting as
Jeff Raver of Prosser, WA, held off a
hard-charging Rob Taylor of Meridian, ID,
for the C-Heat win.
Vancouver, Washington’s Scott
Beaudoin bested the field in the B-Heat,
while R. Thompson took the fast A-Heat
on a last lap pass of Boise, Idaho’s Ken
Chandler, putting the fans on their feet at
the checkered.
In the tough luck corner we found Steve
Thompson of Prosser, WA, who suffered engine failure in thefirst hot lap session. C.J. Hawley
made it a little further into the evening, but a blown head gasket put the Othello, WA, rookie on
the trailer after qualifying.
The Rock Church 75 would see Tacoma, WA, driver Jeff Jones on the pole, with Johnny
Rumsey of Prosser, WA, on the outside, leading the pack to TroyBlanton’s green flag. Jones
would take the early lead, but Madsen would move past him for the lead on lap three. Madsen
would continue at the point till a lap 16 yellow would find our quick time driver R. Thompson
setting still in turn 3 with a broken transmission. On the restart Madsen would only enjoy two
more laps on the point, as Secord would make a power move by the Honda and start to stretch
his lead. Secord wouldn’t find clean air but instead found traffic that demanded his full attention; and, he gave it just that, as he would lead through two more cautions and all the way to lap 72, before the relentless Madsen would catch Secord behind a lapped car and make the outside pass to lead the final three laps and score the win. Secord would take second ahead of Meridian, Idaho’s Rob Powers in the Mike Bailey’s Ford Taurus. Rounding out the top five were Jones and John Jackson of Lewiston, ID.

Evergreen Speedway Sees 40 Laps of Green

Prosser, Washington, Pro4 veteran Steve Thompson put his
outlaw Impala under Troy Blanton’s checkered flag to win the
JZ Motorsports Part’s and Fabrication 40 at the beautiful
Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. S. Thompson used his
Ford horsepower and what was left of his Hoosier Tires to
make a late race charge on the Bellevue Auto Sport Fast Time
driver and track record holder, Eddie Secord of Oak Hills,
California, to slide by on the high side and score the win.
Secord would take home second ahead of Puyallup,
Washington’s John Grosvenor and Tacoma, Washington’s
Jeff Jones; and, rounding out the top five was Prosser,
Washington’s Rick Thompson.
The Evergreen Speedway weekend actually started on
Friday, July 8th with the Evergreen Speedway FanFare event
held in downtown Monroe. Race teams from all of the
motorsports classes and tours that would compete during
the three days of fun and race action showed up to visit with
the fans. Live music, tasty food and vendors of all kinds took
part in what Evergreen Speedway General Manager and
promoter, Doug Hobbs, hopes to become an annual event.
The Pro4 teams of Ken Chandler, Rob Taylor and Eric Kaas all took part by setting up static
displays of their race cars, signing autographs, and handing out photo cards to the fans
(kids and adults) all afternoon.
The Northwest Pro4 Alliance also played host to Tracy Shaw, the regional director for
Wishing Star, by providing space and set up assistance for a fundraiser raffle of very
“sweet” bicycle. The Alliance was first introduced to the Wishing Star organization through
Wishing Star’s involvement with the #99 Pro4 team of driver CJ Hawley. CJ is 15 years old
and is in his rookie season with the Alliance. CJ wanted to support a cause that gave from
the heart, and his choice was Wishing Star.
With NASCAR in town the Alliance would only get a couple of practice sessions, so the key
thing was to find the right gear ratio for what appeared to be a “super speedway” for Pro4
late models. The findings would come as a huge loss for Terry Kaas and driver Eric, as a
broken rod ended their night.
The second practice saw Johnny Rumsey
spin and collect the championship points
leader, Rob Powers, in a huge crash.
Powers and Rumsey both took advantage
of the three and a half hours of K&N West
Series practice to rebuild their cars and go
on to race in the JZ Motorsports 40. Fast
Eddie Secord would claim the Bellevue
Auto Sports Fast Time Award, only to draw
a 12-car invert for the JZ Motorsports 40,
placing none other than Rob Powers in
the #6 on the pole.

Rob Powers, in the rebuilt Mike Bailey owned Ford Taurus out of Meridian, Idaho, would
start on the pole position and take the early lead in what seemed to be a Cinderella story in
development; but soon, the battered race car would begin to suffer from the early day
damage, and on lap 10 Secord would move by and take the lead. Boise driver Ken Chandler
took a shot at the lead, but Secord fought back to keep the point. Jeff Jones of Tacoma,
Washington, and Prosser, Washington’s Rick Thompson, battled the whole event, while
racing could be found all over the 5/8 mile track. Thomas Husk of Bonners Ferry, Idaho,
moved past the cars of Ross Jones and Scott Raver, in action toward the back of the pack.
Meridian, Idaho, rookie contender Rob Taylor was up front and running very well, as was
John Jackson of Lewiston, Idaho, and Terry Rennick of Salem, Oregon. Casualties included
Chandler, who was forced into early departure with a broken flywheel; Othello, Washington,
rookie driver CJ Hawley with battery issues; Tom Keehan with a blown motor; and Greg
Hector with unknown problems, leaving 21 cars to finish the race. With two laps to go, Steve
Thompson of Prosser, Washington, passed Secord and drove on to take the win. Coming
home third was Puyallup, Washington, driver John Grosvenor. The JZ Motorsports 40 ran
laps of green flag racing, taking only 31 minutes and 15 seconds to complete from the time
they rolled onto the track.

YOUR VOICE

<> To all of the Pro 4 Alliance... Last night was the 1st time I have had a chance to watch your group. I do stats for Steve Mortland's Northsound Racing here in Everett, Wa so I have seen the very impressive car counts while gathering results. Seeing those cars in person for the 1st time I was really impressed with how nice they looked. The cars that really impressed me the most were the #33 and #38, those Corvette bodied cars looked really reallly cool. I wich NASCAR would approve those bodystyles for the weekly series because I could get used to seeing them much more often. The entire series is to be complemented as a whole because I was almost certain they would have a yellow within the first coupole of laps, boy was I wrong. 40 laps green to checkers with almost everyone still on track was great to see. Hopefully your series will return to Evergreen next year with as strong if not a stronger car count. I would love to see them again and soon. I know the 5/8's was a good show but I would like to see that type of car count on the 3/8's but that would proably end up in some damaged cars. Either way if the drivers and fans are both having fun then I think we all Win.
Thanks again for putting on a great show

SECORD WINS AT STATELINE

California’s Eddie Secord took the Terry Rennick owned #77 to the Stateline Speedway’s Winners Circle in the Rockett Brand Racing Fuel 75 on August 13, 2011. Secord would take the lead on a restart and never look back to score his second Alliance win and become the only two-time Stateline Speedway winner, ending the four-year streak.
Steve Thompson would score fast time at a 13.679, while Secord would win the A-Trophy Dash and Greg Hector would prevail in the B-
Trophy Dash. Heat race action was fast and exciting, as Canadian driver Jim McKay would hold off Rob Taylor for the C-Heat win. The B-Heat saw Eric Kaas score the win, with Jeff Hector right on his bumper. The A-Heat saw defending Alliance Champ, Kurt Madsen, narrowly defeat Matt Melby for the win.
The B-Main event saw Ron Grosvenor take the lead and never look back, as he handily won the 20-lap qualifier over Charles McDonald, Greg Hector, Rob Taylor,Jim McKa evelopment of the series, as marketing director Bob Coply and Ross Jones unveiled
and close competition the Alliance has become known for. The SS4 car has been embraced by many compact  teams as a

Rockett Brand Racing Fuel 75
stepping stone to the Pro4 division, and excitement in the series is growing as the word is getting out.The Alliance would like to see 10 to 12 SS4 cars on opening day 2012 for a stand alone feature, and the Alliance staff is working on incentive programs and sponsorship to help reach that goal. Coply states, “We could not have picked a better time for the SS4 car to emerge, and take its place in the Alliance program.”
Tough luck fell again on the teams of Jeff Raver and CJ Hawley, as transmission problems sidelined Raver and Hawley saw engine problems dash his hopes for a good night. Twenty-two of the sleekest and meanest looking Pro4 cars west of the Rockies rolled out to take “Cowboy” Troy Blanton’s green flag and, when they did, the action started with John Grosvenor taking the lead as pole setter Casey Tillman pulled to the infield with engine trouble. Contact between Terry Rennick and Rick Thompson saw the blue outlaw Impala of Thompson spin to the infield to bring out the first of three cautions and one red flag. Thompson rejoined the field and the restart saw “Fast“ Eddie Secord take over the lead. Secord, with the lead, was slowed by the second yellow on lap 13 when John Jackson spun. The running order at this early stage was Secord, followed by Melby, S. Thompson, Madsen, Rob Powers, J. Grosvenor, Ken Chandler, Jeff Jones, Rennick and R. Thompson rounding out the top ten.
On the restart Secord again took to the lead, while the fight for second was heating up between Melby and S. Thompson. A spin by R. Jones on lap 30 brought out a quickie yellow that saw Secord’s driving shine, as only 11 cars remained on the lead lap. Once going again, Secord and crew would resume the wicked pace as the cars would rocket around the track inches apart.
Lap 33 would see a crash in turn two that would bring out the red flag and end the night for the cars of Terry Rennick and Ken Chandler, while causing slight damage to the Taylor car. The clean-up saw Chandler’s corvette carried off the track hanging in mid-air by the tow truck.
On the restart things got slick with 42 laps to go as, unknown to race director Chris Cunningham, the Melby car was leaking gear oil making the racing surface slick as ice and very tough for the drivers to hang on, but hang on they did to finish the Rockett Brand Racing Fuel 75 with Eddie Secord the winner. Second went to Matt Melby, third to Steve Thompson, followed by Rick Thompson, Rob Powers, John Grosvenor, Bud Rumsey, Jeff Hector, Eric Kaas and rounding out the top ten was Travis Allen.
wanted two wins in a row.
Fifteen‐year old Californian, Toby Becker, would lead the field to the green but, unfortunately, he would become the first yellow of the evening on lap 7, as the third generation driver would make Roseburg, OR ‐ The Northwest Pro4 Alliance rolled into Douglas County Speedway with 22 of the best Pro4 teams in the western U.S. to put on a show that was very interesting, to say the least.
Prosser, WA, Pro4 veteran, Rick Thompson, drove his Hi‐Way Auto/Ashley Machine Outlaw Impala past four yellows and a quickie red flag by the light of a full moon to score his first win of the season.
contact with the turn two wall. On the restart it did not take long before another Becker would find his way to the front, as Derek Becker would lead until a spin by Terry Rennick would bring out another yellow. On the restart, Secord moved the Renegade Racing #77 past Becker to take the lead and hold it through another yellow.
The big crash of the night came when S. Thompson and Scott Beaudoin made contact that saw Beaudoin spin and collect CJ Hawley, Rennick and Rob Taylor. After cleanup, the field was set with Secord, R. Thompson and D. Becker in the top three;  but once the green fell on the restart, it was R. Thompson on the run as he worked hard to pass Secord and, with a low side pass, he

Qualifying saw Steve Thompson set the Northwest Pro4 Alliance track record at 15.294 and score the Bellevue Auto Sports Fast Time Award ahead of current championship points leader, Eddie Secord, and his brother, Rick Thompson. The Bob Jackson Body
Repair Fast Dash Award win went to Rick Thompson as he defeated Secord, S. Thompson and Ken Chandler.
Heat race action saw Johnny Rumsey, Eric Kaas and Secord all score wins on the tricky Douglas County Speedway. The win for Rumsey lifted his spirits, as he had suffered mild heat stroke earlier in the day. Kaas had some momentum going, and his heat race win added to it quite well. Secord’s win served notice that he
took the lead. With the race looking set to run smoothly to the end, R. Thompson slightly increased his lead on the field until lap 72, when D. Becker lost the brakes on his Alliance Refrigeration Fusion and slammed the turn three k‐rail.
The race went red as the extremely damaged #47 was removed from the track and Becker was checked for any injuries. The race ended with a green‐white‐checkered that saw R. Thompson hold off a last race charge by Secord, while Jeff Jones scored third ahead of Rob Powers and Chandler.
the New Super Stock 4 (SS4) car. Ross and Bob Larson built this car for the Outlaw Compact Series but it failed to meet their requirements; but, it did meet the needs of the Alliance, and the wheels started turning and the announcement was made for the SS4

went to John Grosvenor out of Puyallup, WA, and the final A-heat went to Prosser, WA, driver Bud Rumsey.
The Northwest Pro4 Alliance staff and drivers were treated to an introduction fit for Super Late Models, as each driver stood by their car, had their name announced, and then presented for a brief interview. Nice touch, Yakima Speedway!
The Lucas Oil Products 100 saw Rob Powers and Bud Rumsey on the front row ready to get the ball rolling; and that they did, with Powers taking the early lead. Oregon driver Matt Melby would move into the lead on lap four, but a lap six yellow would slow the field. Powers had to make a pit stop under the yellow for a flat tire but got back on track before the green flag would
fly. Secord also pitted with what appeared to be a blown engine, but he would return later, some laps down. After three more cautions for spins, the field settled into a run that took them to the 60-lap break. The running order saw R. Thompson leading, with S. Thompson, B. Rumsey, Melby and Craig Forney your top five.
On the lap 60 green all hell broke loose, as S. Thompson found the back bumper of the leader R. Thompson, resulting in both cars sliding off of turn two, taking the B. Rumsey car with them and handing the lead over to Forney.
Over the final 40 laps, S. Thompson had the crowd on their feet as he raced from the back of the pack to within three car lengths of the leader, but had to settle for second, with R. Thompson in his tire tracks for third. Rob Powers took fourth ahead of Jeff Jones to round out the top five.
